In a moment that brought the entire crowd to its feet, 11-year-old Josie Salvitti from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, joined Jelly Roll on stage for a surprise duet during his Backroad Baptism Tour stop in Burgettstown, PA. The performance took place on Tuesday, August 15, at The Pavilion at Star Lake and what followed was nothing short of magical.
With country star Lainey Wilson away on her headlining tour, Salvitti stepped in to perform Wilson’s verse in Jelly Roll’s hit “Save Me,” from his latest album WHITSITT CHAPEL. She not only filled big shoes she captivated thousands.
“It was crazy! So many people!” Josie shared afterward.
A Dream Realized
Prior to the performance, Josie held a sign that read:
“Since Lainey is on her way to Alabama… Can I sing ‘Save Me’ with you? – Jelly Roll & Josie”
The sign caught Jelly Roll’s attention mid-show. With the crowd cheering her on and security guiding her backstage, Josie soon found herself standing at the edge of the stage. When the chorus passed, Jelly Roll invited her out. With poise well beyond her years, she belted out the lyrics, commanding the stage and earning roaring applause.
Backed by a full band, she delivered every word with heartfelt emotion and fearless energy. Jelly Roll, visibly moved, sang beside her with pride and admiration.
A Rising Talent
This isn’t Josie’s first brush with country fame. Just weeks earlier, during Lainey Wilson’s concert in Tampa, FL, Wilson spotted Josie in the crowd holding another sign and handed her the mic to sing “Watermelon Moonshine.” That spontaneous moment quickly caught the attention of producers from American Idol, who reached out directly.
In a Zoom call posted to her Facebook page, an American Idol producer praised Josie’s voice and enthusiasm. Though she’s currently too young to compete, they granted her a VIP pass to audition in front of the judges in Los Angeles the moment she turns 15.
“I can’t fill her shoes there’s only one Lainey,” Josie said. “But I’m honored. And Lainey, American Idol, Jelly Roll, and everyone who’s supported me have made this dream feel possible.”
Just the Beginning
Josie, who says she began singing “on a dare from my dad” just over a year ago, is already proving she’s a name to remember. With courage, raw talent, and a voice that resonates far beyond her years, she’s clearly headed toward an extraordinary future.
