One of Jason Statham’s action movies that celebrated its 10th anniversary a few years ago has returned to streaming charts. Statham stars opposite Jennifer Lopez in Parker, the 2013 heist caper film following a thief with a unique code of ethics who is double-crossed and left for dead by his crew. After assuming a new disguise and connecting with a woman on the inside, he begins his mission to take his old crew’s newest score. Wendell Pierce, Nick Nolte, Bobby Cannavale, and Patti LuPone also star in Parker, which earned “rotten” scores of 41% from critics and 48% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Parker premiered on Tubi on April 1 and has made its way to the #3 spot on the streamer’s charts.
John McLaughlin wrote the script for Parker, which is based on the novel Flashfire by Donald E. Westlake, which he wrote under the pen name Richard Stark. McLaughlin worked with Statham two years after Parker as a co-producer on Wild Card, the gambling thriller that’s currently absent from streaming. He is also famous for writing the script for Black Swan, the 2010 psychological thriller that won Natalie Portman her first Oscar. Taylor Hackford was brought on to direct Parker, and he’s best known for his work helming An Officer and a Gentleman, the 19821 romantic drama starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger. Some of his more recent work came from directing The Comedian, the 2020 R-rated romantic comedy starring Robert De Niro opposite Edie Falco. Before Parker, Hackford directed Love Ranch, the 2010 sports drama starring Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci.
Jason Statham’s new movie, A Working Man, hit theaters a few weeks ago, but the film has yet to find the same success at the box office as its predecessor, The Beekeeper. A Working Man is not a sequel to The Beekeeper, but it is the most recent movie for Statham and David Ayer, both of whom returned to star in and direct A Working Man. A Working Man has grossed $53 million at the global box office, with $38 million coming from domestic markets and $24 million from international earnings. It finished atop the box office its first weekend in theaters before giving the #1 spot to A Minecraft Movie this past weekend.
Parker stars Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez and was directed by Taylor Hackford. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and watch Parker on Tubi.
