Meryl Streep relationship rumors were only stoked by Martin Short’s most recent interview.
Speaking to Extra on Monday, the actor raved about his “love” for his “Only Murders in the Building” co-star, Streep, and their respective characters’ romance.
The 74-year-old Tony winner remarked, “I think a friendship always grows if you work with someone and love that person,” in a conversation with Steve Martin and Selena Gomez.
Gomez added that Oliver Putnam and Loretta Durkin’s relationship was “so sweet,” even though Short stated that he didn’t “want to reveal too much of what happens” between their characters.
As for Streep, 75, Martin confirmed that she “is friends with all of” them.
The 79-year-old comedian remarked, “I’ve worked with her,” and Short nodded. Luckily, I worked with her on a movie. and you’re already laughing and chatting if I don’t see her for two years and we end up getting back together. It’s cordial.
Martin’s subdued response coincides with conjecture on the nature of Streep and Short’s actual relationship.
The representative for the Emmy winner told People that the two are “very good friends, nothing more” when dating rumors surfaced in January 2024.
On Thursday, though, the two were seen holding hands at the Hulu series’ Season 4 launch.
